Finally it’s here. I expected we would receive the shipment today after confirming with the publisher that our order for the bible was shipped Oct. 8th. I know some stores in the East Coast got it earlier than we did, but I am happy to have them before Oct. 15th which was the date promised. Here I post the display I set up, also couple of endorsements from my favorite authors.
- “I was privileged to act as General Editor of the English Standard Version, and now that I look back on what we did in producing that version, I find myself suspecting very strongly that this was the most important thing that I have ever done for the Kingdom, and that the product of our labors is perhaps the biggest milestone in Bible translation in certainly the last half century at least, and perhaps more. And now, as Theological Editor of the ESV Study Bible, I believe that the work we have done together on this project has set an altogether new standard in study Bibles.”
- J. I. Packer, Professor of Theology, Regent College, Vancouver, Canada
- “I believe the ESV Study Bible is the world’s best single-volume resource for reading, studying, and teaching the Bible. Produced by a team of leading evangelical scholars, the ESV Study Bible provides a wealth of theological, historical, grammatical, and archaeological information in the articles, book introductions, and verse-by-verse notes. Exceptional attention has also been given to producing new maps, charts, and visual illustrations of places in the Bible. The visual impact is stunning—with beautiful images that will draw readers back to the study Bible again and again, giving them a deeper understanding of the sites and settings of the Bible.”

New Testament Text and Translation Commentary
October 22, 2008 by wpinchrist
The New Testament Text and Translation Commentary offers a convenient way to see how the standard English translations differ when there is a significant textual variant in the underlying Greek manuscripts. For each passage, the textual data is presented in a clear, easy-to-read way. It is easy to see at a glance which English versions follow which Greek variant. In addition, New testament scholar Philip W. Comfort gives helpful commentary on what is going on in the Greek text and what might have led the translators to choose one reading over another.
All the major English translations are surveyed – KJV, NKJV, RSV, NRSV, ESV, NASV, NIV, TNIV, NEB, REB, NJB, NAB, NLT, HCSB, and NET Bible.
In addition to passage-by-passage commentary, Comfort provides an introduction to the art of textual criticism, its importance for studying the New Testament, and the challenges Bible scholars and translators face.
